Qiming Venture Partners Exclusively Leads Makera's Pre-A Round

17/10/2025

Makera, a pioneer in consumer-grade desktop CNC (Computer Numerical Control) technology, announced the completion of its Pre-A financing round, raising tens of millions of RMB in an exclusive deal led by Qiming Venture Partners.

The new capital will fuel R&D of core technologies, manufacturing expansion, and global branding, accelerating Makera's mission to make precision desktop CNC tools accessible to makers, small businesses, and educators worldwide. The funding also underscores growing investor confidence in the emerging consumer desktop CNC segment for makers and DIY users.

Maker DNA at the Core

Founded in 2019 by a team of passionate makers, Makera develops intelligent, easy-to-use precision CNC machines that deliver industrial-grade performance in a compact, affordable form.

CEO and Founder Josh Zhang brings over a decade of experience in software, product design, and entrepreneurship across the U.S. and China. Frustrated by traditional CNC machines—often expensive, complex, and bulky—Josh Zhang set out to "democratize CNC technology," empowering users of all skill levels to turn their ideas into high-quality creations.

From Flagship Products to a Complete Ecosystem

Makera's flagship products, Carvera and Carvera Air, rank among the top two most-funded CNC projects in Kickstarter history, cementing the company's reputation for precision, versatility, and user-friendliness.

Building on this success, Makera will introduce the Makera Z1 in Q4 2025—a thousand-dollar-level desktop CNC that delivers professional-grade performance at an entry-level price. Alongside Makera Z1, the company will launch Makera Studio, an intelligent CAM toolpath-generation platform, and Makerables, a global content and learning community for makers.

Together, these form Makera's integrated "hardware + software + content" ecosystem, designed to make desktop CNC as intuitive and accessible as 3D printing.

Technology-Driven Competitive Edge

Makera's Carvera system integrates automatic and rapid tool changing, auto-leveling, dust collection, and rotary machining in a single compact unit. It is the first desktop CNC to incorporate an industrial-grade closed-loop control system, achieving 0.01 mm accuracy—a level of precision that surpasses most consumer devices.

Complementing the hardware, Makera Studio—developed in-house over three years—offers intuitive workflow guidance, tutorials, and one-click toolpath generation, dramatically reducing the CNC learning curve and enabling both professionals and beginners to create with confidence.

"This funding marks a pivotal step as Makera transitions from technological innovation to ecosystem expansion," said Josh Zhang, Founder and CEO of Makera. "We believe desktop CNC is approaching its iPhone moment—a plug-and-play smart terminal that belongs on every creator's desk. Our goal is to make precision manufacturing as simple and inspiring as 3D printing."

"Makera is the first desktop CNC brand to make 'lowering user barriers' its central mission," said Kuantai Yeh, Partner at Qiming Venture Partners. "With its innovative hardware, proprietary CAM software, and the upcoming entry-level Makera Z1 and AIGC-powered Makerables community, Makera is poised to bring precision CNC to millions of homes and studios worldwide."
